Jabrill Peppers, the former North Jersey high school football star, returned to the Garden State with the New England Patriots on Thursday night.

The Don Bosco and Paramus Catholic standout is a key contributor to the Patriots' defense and is also one of the few NFL players to wear the protective cap over his helmet.

The veteran NFL safety has been wearing it for eight years since the first week of this season.

What is the NFL Guardian cap?

The Guardian Cap is a softshell cover worn over an NFL helmet to reduce the risk of concussions and other head injuries.

Peppers explains here why he wears the guards cap:

Peppers signed a three-year contract extension with the Patriots this summer. The base salary is $24 million and can be worth up to $30 million with benefits.
