Jets' Garrett Wilson makes a stunning one-handed TD catch against the Texans

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Garrett Wilson saw the ball floating his way, so he did everything he could to catch it.

He jumped into the end zone with his legs outstretched and his arms outstretched. And with a stunning, one-handed grab, the star wide receiver gave the New York Jets the lead and left everyone watching – in the stadium and on TV at home – completely stunned.

“Oh my God,” interim coach Jeff Ulbrich said.

Wilson's Acrobatic 26-yard touchdown catch helped the Jets do that a 21-13 victory over the Houston Texans on Thursday evening. And it's sure to end up on highlight reels for years to come.

“I thought, 'This is good.' This is good and it has to count,” Wilson said. “I remember saying to everyone, 'You're gassing me too soon.' It has to count, people. Let's relax!'

“When it counted, I thought, ‘Yeah, all right. Now you can tell me everything.”

With the Jets facing 3rd-and-19 at the Texans 26, Aaron Rodgers threw the ball upfield toward Wilson in the end zone. And the Jets' star receiver did the rest.

Looking like Michael Jordan's “Jumpman” logo, Wilson caught the pass with his legs outstretched in the air and was able to land in the end zone.

“I told him he might get kicked out of Adidas after this,” said a laughing Davante Adams, who is sponsored by Nike. “He looked like he was on the way to Jumpman with me. So, we'll see. I'll talk to some people about it. I’m not going to say they’re going to replace the logo – Mike might not like me saying that – but that was a big snag.”

Wilson's catch immediately brought to mind the Giants' Odell Beckham Jr.'s one-handed catch against Dallas in 2014.

“Man, it was different with Odell, he came down two feet and the ball went out of bounds,” said Wilson, who added that he was watching the play live when Beckham made the catch. “And it was Odell, man. Odell vs. the Cowboys. That was it.

“The fact that it’s even brought up in this conversation is a blessing to me. I am honored. But Odell, yes, that’s that boy.”

The move was initially called an incomplete pass, but Ulbrich countered.

“I mean, I talked to the referee when they reviewed it,” Ulbrich said. “I thought, 'Just for posterity's sake, we have to say that this is so so that it goes down in history.'”

Video replay confirmed Wilson's shin was in the end zone, and a touchdown was called to give the Jets a 14-10 lead with 12:54 left in the fourth quarter.

“I felt like I got it to a pretty good place, but yeah, basically I didn’t do much,” Rodgers said. “I just threw one there and he made an incredible catch. When I saw the replay, it looked like he jammed his knee and I thought, 'Shoot, let's throw the challenge,' and Brick was already in front of me throwing it.”

It was the second of two one-handed touchdown grabs Wilson made against the Texans. The first was a less spectacular but still impressive 21-yard touchdown in the third quarter.

“That’s G, man,” Adams said. “I've seen myself in walkthroughs that we throw the ball back and someone catches the ball and runs into the end zone. So we start playing catch when we go back and he'll do stuff like that so it's not too surprising.

“But to be able to do that in front of 80,000 and maybe millions or hundreds of thousands of viewers at home, that’s something special.”

Wilson was told that Beckham's catch meant a loss for the Giants – so Wilson's catch might have been better.

“You know what? All right,” Wilson said, laughing. “Fair enough.”
