Khalil Shakir is on the verge of breaking the absurd NFL record for Bills

2 minutes, 45 seconds Read

Khalil Shakir was the only Buffalo Bills returning wide receiver to catch a pass from Josh Allen this season.

He's caught everyone Allen throws his way.

Shakir, a third-year wide receiver, could set a new NFL standard for receiving perfection. He has scored 27 consecutive times, tying Michael Thomas' 2018 record for the longest streak by a wide receiver in the NFL since those statistics were collected in 1991.

Shakir's string of consecutive catches spans 2023 and 2024. He caught all 14 targets this year, with a season-high six catches, 72 yards and a touchdown in a 47-10 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday Night Football. He also scored his 13 goals in the 2023 regular season.

To put that in perspective, Nick Foles (2018) and Philip Rivers (2018) hold the record for most consecutive passes in a game with 25. Ryan Tannehill completed 25 straight passes over a two-game span in 2015.

The synergistic performance between Allen and Shakir surpasses each quarterback series.

“I could say this over and over again: (Shakir) is a bloody football player, the focus is on football.” Allen said after the Bills beat the Jaguars. “He loves the game. He does things right. He's been so selfless in his approach all week. During training he may receive two passes.”

“He just keeps finding ways to be in the right place at the right time and he makes plays. That's just kind of his MO, I fucking love him. I'm so proud of him and his development that he's come this far in his career.”

Shakir had the best catch rate of any wide receiver in the NFL last year at 86.7%.

The Bills (3-0) travel to face the Baltimore Ravens (1-2) on Sunday Night Football at 8:20 p.m.
