Kim Kardashian on the Menendez brothers' possible release from prison

Kim Kardashian has made her opinion on the Erik and Lyle Menendez case very clear. Last month, she wrote an essay for NBC News advocating for her release from prison after she met the brothers at the Richard J. “I don't think they ever got a fair second trial and since then I feel like watching Ryan Murphy's 'Monsters' show really opened it up and showed me so much about abuse,” Kardashian said diversityMarc Malkin at the Academy Museum Gala on Saturday. “Imagine if no one believed you.”

Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón announced that the brothers will be granted a hearing on November 29 to reevaluate newly discovered evidence in their case.

“The DA’s office really should right the wrongs she committed many years ago. That doesn't mean they shouldn't take their time. It just means that I truly believe they deserve a second chance and have put in enough time,” Kardashian said.

Erik and Lyle were sentenced to life in prison without parole following a retrial in 1996. The brothers murdered their parents in August 1989, claiming that their father had repeatedly sexually abused them for years. These details were omitted from her second and decisive trial.

“The sentence they received has been served for almost 35 years. This is more than just a first-degree murder charge,” Kardashian said. “I’m someone who believes in second chances, and I really believe in it.”

Koch also spoke with Malkin at the Academy Museum Gala about why he might not be willing to support “Monsters” co-creator Ryan Murphy's interest in filming bonus episodes of the Netflix series once the brothers are released from prison.

“I think we’ve told the story,” Koch said. “We made it.”

He added: “I think I’m ready to move on to the next step. I loved talking about it and I loved championing them and I'm really excited for them to hopefully come out, but when it comes to being Erik again, I think I'm ready “To let that go.”

Koch said he was interested in meeting with Luca Guadagnino to discuss his role as Patrick Bateman in the filmmaker's remake of “American Psycho.”
