Lakers sign Bronny James to the G-League after four appearances in the NBA

According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Los Angeles Lakers decided on Wednesday to assign rookie guard Bronny James, son of LeBron James, to the G-League.

Bronny, 20, will join the South Bay Lakers on Saturday. He is expected to remain on the Los Angeles roster through Friday's game against the Philadelphia 76ers before moving to the franchise's G League affiliate. James will only play home games for South Bay and could move regularly between the NBA and the G-League, according to Charania.

Bronny, who was one of coach JJ Redick's last options as a backup player, has played in four games for the Lakers this season. He averages 3.3 minutes per game and records 1.0 points, 0.3 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game.

His last appearance came shortly after Wednesday night's loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. James played just over four minutes and went 0-2 from the field. He scored two points and had a personal foul.

The Lakers selected Bronny in the second round with the No. 56 pick in this year's draft. Bronny and LeBron made history when they stepped onto the court together in the season opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The move to the G-League certainly makes sense if Bronny wants to further his development and potentially become a mainstay in the NBA. With limited options available to the rookie in LA, he will have a chance to play more significant minutes in the G-League.
