BATON ROUGE – LSU basketball senior point guard Last-Tear Poa was not with the team for the two preseason exhibition games, including LSU's 117-37 win over LSU-Alexandria on Wednesday night.

Her absence will impact the start of the 2024-25 season, which begins Monday night for No. 7 LSU against Eastern Kentucky at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center (7 p.m., SEC Network+).

LSU coach Kim Mulkey told reporters after the second preseason game that she did not expect Poa to play. Mulkey said after the first preseason game that Poa was still part of the team, but she had to “take care of some off-field matters.”

It was unclear why Poa, the most experienced point guard on the Tigers' roster this season, was not with the team, and Mulkey declined to provide details on why.

Before LSU's exhibition game on Wednesday, it was revealed that Poa has filed a lawsuit against United States immigration authorities for denying her F-1A visa application, citing the difficulty for her as an international student-athlete, a name, a picture and an image to obtain offers.

Team officials told the Daily Advertiser that her absence had nothing to do with the lawsuit, and Mulkey told reporters following the exhibition that she had not heard of Poa filing a lawsuit.

Poa is LSU's most experienced point guard this season, having played in Mulkey's system the past two years. Last season was her best season statistically, averaging 4.9 points per game, but her biggest impact came on defense, where she became known for her offense.

In Poa's place, LSU has a few guards it will turn to, including senior Shayeann Day-Wilson as well as freshman Jada Richard.
