According to the Broward County Sheriff's Office, U.S. Marshals arrested Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Devontay Banks, on Thursday. He was being held at the Main Jail and was charged with murder-for-hire, records show.

Details of the alleged conspiracy have not been released.

Earlier this month, rapper FBG Duck's mother filed a lawsuit seeking to link Lil Durk and his murdered protégé King Von to the gang killing of her son on the Gold Coast.

FBG Duck, whose real name is Carlton Weekly, was shot dead by a group of masked men in August 2020 as he waited to enter the Dolce & Gabbana store. His girlfriend, Cashae Williams, and another man, Davon Brinson, were also injured in the attack and named as plaintiffs in the lawsuit.

The lawsuit, filed in Cook County court, relies largely on evidence disclosed in the criminal case and alleges that Durk's record label, Only The Family (OTF), is a criminal enterprise. The label, whose signees included Von, had deals with media giant Sony and other major labels that allegedly welcomed artists involved in criminal activity.

On the same day that Lil Durk was arrested in Florida, five Chicago men were arrested and accused of participating in a murder-for-hire plot to murder rapper Quando Rondo in California for his alleged involvement in the shooting of King Von.

The five were associated with OTF, a hip-hop collective founded by Lil Durk that produces and sells drill rap by artists primarily from Chicago, the indictment says. King Von was a high-ranking member of the group.

OTF was founded by Lil Durk in 2010, around the same time the drill rap subgenre emerged. The subgenre is characterized by its monotonous lyrics that reference gang violence.

A concert performed by Lil Durk at the United Center on Sunday was marred by violence when 18-year-old high school senior Jesse Kendall of Elgin was shot and robbed as he went to the show with friends.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates
