Live Florida 2024 Election Results: Trump Projected to Win, Abortion Ballot Measures Projected to Fail

ABC News predicts that former President Donald Trump will win Florida's 30 electoral votes.

A key ballot measure on abortion access is expected to fail.

Florida voters also cast their ballots in several down-ballot contests.

The state has long been considered a battleground, but in recent years it has turned increasingly Republican.

State significance

Although Florida voted for former President Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012 and was long considered a battleground state, the state voted for Trump, a candidate in both elections. Florida appears to be moving rapidly to the right since Trump's 2.3 percent victory in 2020, with Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, running for re-election in 2022 by nearly 20 percentage points. Part of this shift has been attributed to the decline in support among Hispanic voters in Florida.

State Democrats hoped to bring Florida back into play with the help of abortion access – which was put directly before voters in the same November vote with Vice President Kamala Harris and Trump. The ballot measure would have guaranteed expanded access to abortion and overturned DeSantis' six-week ban.

However, since 86% of the expected votes were reported, it can be assumed that the initiative will fail and not be adopted. It received 57% of the vote and needed 60% of the vote to pass.

ABC News also predicts incumbent Republican Senator Rick Scott will win. He was not expected to be threatened in his bid for re-election.

Counties are colored red or blue when the percentage of expected votes reaches a set threshold. This threshold varies by state and is based on past voting reporting patterns and expectations about how voting will occur this year.
