What an evening at Villa Park (what a shame the tickets for the game were so expensive). Anyway, Ben Fisher was there.

Arne slot: “It wasn't easy, Bologna made it difficult, they drew human hands everywhere on the pitch. You have to wait for the right moment. The last round could have been better.

“The players and staff I took over were great from the start. It helps that we haven't changed much, but they've really embraced it.

“Overall a good result, but I wouldn't say I'm pleased.

“I see when we lose the ball, heads go down. That happened a little too often in the first half, but in the second half we pressed better and had more control.”

Sam Trenery says: “Great result for Liverpool, but we (unfortunately) have to talk about the referee – a series of frankly bizarre decisions that culminated in a yellow penalty for Tsimikas for a really good tackle.” Luckily Liverpool weren't penalized for that, but I have to sympathize with the Montenegrin teams that have to deal with him every week…”

Emails from Kári Tulinius: “It is premature to come to a conclusion about the new format when matchday two is not yet over, but so far it feels like the super clubs are playing with the intensity of a pre-season friendly while the teams in “The lower ranks deal with it.” Games like cup finals. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a lot of surprises.”

“Oh, did you say Cambiasso?” asks Charles Antaki. “That made me sit up and wonder if, like today’s Wojciech Szczęsny, he had revoked his retirement and returned to The Fray. However, I took a closer look and it seems that there is a faulty S in there somewhere, and it's not the old warhorse at all. Shame.”

Sorry for getting your hopes up.
