Man killed before Crow Wing County kidnapping

BRAINERD (WJON News) – The man who kidnapped a woman and four children is believed to have shot and killed a man, according to the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office.

They say officers responded to a shooting east of Brainerd around 1:50 a.m. Friday.

The victim was identified as a 62-year-old Lyle mask from Brainerd. 35-year-old Chad Aanerud of Brainerd is the suspected shooter.

Aanerud is then said to have taken five people against their will and left the crime scene.

At approximately 7:15 a.m. the vehicle was located and stopped in Morrison County. Aanerud was arrested and his five hostages were found safe.

The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office has canceled the AMBER ALERT.

The sheriff says Chad Aanerud was taken into custody in Morrison County.

The kidnapped mother and her children have been found and are safe.

Minnesota law enforcement issued an Amber Alert Friday morning.

The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in locating a pregnant woman and her four children who were kidnapped at gunpoint from a home northeast of Brainerd just before 2 a.m. Friday.

The kidnapped woman was 33-year-old Nikkole Dobson. Her four children are 14, 11, 7 and 3 years old.

They were picked up by their boyfriend, 35-year-old Chad Aanerud. He drives a white 2017 Chrysler Pacifica minivan with Minnesota license plate AEC 351.

When he arrived at the house where Dobson and her children lived, he fired a rifle bullet into the ceiling, forcing her to leave with him.
