With an impressive victory from 17th on the grid at the Brazilian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen finally broke a months-long drought without a win – and was in top form afterwards.

After a contentious few weeks, Verstappen took aim at the British media in the FIA post-race press conference.

To describe Max Verstappen's drive at the Brazilian Grand Prix as a championship-defining moment would perhaps be an understatement.

After a frustrating qualifying session in which he criticized the FIA for being slow enough to wave the red flag because a car hit the wall – which in turn gave Verstappen's competition the opportunity to knock him out of the second qualifying session – the driver admitted he felt like he wanted to “destroy the garage.”

Since a grid penalty of five places was imposed due to an engine change, Verstappen had to line up in 17th place on the grid for the Brazilian Grand Prix.

After a chaotic start with canceled formation laps, a long delay and increasing rain, Verstappen faced an uphill battle to secure a points place, let alone a victory.

But the reigning champion reminded us once again why he was so dominant, overtaking several cars on the first lap and ultimately securing victory at Interlagos.

It was a strong win for a driver who hasn't won a Grand Prix for several months – but it was also likely a strong morale boost for a driver who has been vocal about feeling that “British bias” is affecting his treatment.

Before the Brazilian Grand Prix, he told the media that he wasn't listening to “the people” in the British press who try to criticize him at every turn.

A win was exactly what Verstappen needed to silence those critics and he seized that opportunity.

A brave Verstappen was unusually talkative in the post-race press conference, sharing his thoughts on the importance of this race to his championship hunt while also trading jokes with his podium colleagues Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon.

But as the conference came to an end, Verstappen explained: “I have a quick question here.

“I mean, I appreciate you all being here,” he said, referring to the multitude of Brazilian journalists fielding questions for local publications, “but I don’t see any British press.

“Did you have to walk to the airport – or do you not know where the press conference is taking place?”

The question sparked light laughter from the audience before the microphone was passed to another local journalist who was keen to speak to the top three.
