Mets vs. Brewers Game 2 Predictions: MLB Wild Card Odds, Picks

2 minutes, 27 seconds Read

In Game 1 of their National League Wild Card series with the Mets, it was the Milwaukee Brewers who lacked rest despite the extra day of preparation.

The Mets, meanwhile, showed no signs of an emotional hangover after playing the Braves a day after a playoff-clinching doubleheader.

Lines for Wednesday's Game 2 opened as pick'em. Little has happened in Milwaukee's direction since then, but the market isn't valuing the Brewers nearly as much as perhaps it should with their season teetering on the brink.

The handle and sharp money are leaning heavily toward the Brewers.

Mets vs Brewers Prediction

(7:38 p.m., ESPN)

Milwaukee gave up two leads in Game 1 on Tuesday without giving up a home run, a key reason the Mets are playing in October.

Yes, the Mets were disciplined on the field by drawing walks and being aggressive on the bases.

However, this shouldn't be viewed as a sustainable formula against a Milwaukee staff that can hit consistently (No. 7 overall in zone percentage) and contain hits (fourth-lowest BABIP).

Sean Manaea will start Game 2 for the Mets, while Milwaukee will start Frankie Montas. It's the same pitching match from last Friday, a game in which Manaea hit a grand slam off Rhys Hoskins in the first inning.

Although that explosion came from his primary pitch sinker, Manaea capitalizes on issues in much of his arsenal by suppressing hard contact when pitches get stuck over the plate.

The Brewers aren't the most dangerous contact team, but the combination of right-handed hitters and left-handed hitters offers plenty of potential for all four of the Brewers' top power hitters.

Hoskins, Willy Adames, William Contreras and Jackson Chourio are all right-handed hitters in the 20-plus home run club.

Although Montas has taken steps in the right direction since arriving in Milwaukee at the trade deadline, he is not the same pitcher he once was.

However, the Brewers managed to save several key backup players for Game 2, including Jared Koenig, reliever Trevor Megill and closer Devin Williams.

Choice between Mets and Brewers

Milwaukee finished 2024 as the second-most aggressive swinging team in baseball behind the Yankees.

Let's look for the bats to seek more early contact with Manaea as the bullpen corrects Tuesday's sloppy individual celebration.
