Three teams – the Mets, Braves and Diamondbacks – are competing for the final two wild card spots in the National League. The Diamondbacks' regular season is over.

After a postponement due to Hurricane Helene, the Mets and Braves will play a doubleheader in Atlanta on Monday to determine the NL wild-card round. They each need a win to secure a wild card, and if they split the doubleheader, the D-Backs will be eliminated. If either team is defeated on Monday, that team will be eliminated and the D-Backs will advance to the playoffs.

If the Mets and Braves split the doubleheader, Atlanta would be the No. 5 seed and New York would be the No. 6 seed, based on Atlanta's win in the season series between the two. The Braves would then travel to San Diego to face the Padres, while the Mets would return to Milwaukee to play the Brewers.

If either the Mets or Braves win 2-0 on Monday, that club would travel to San Diego as a No. 5 seed, while Arizona would play No. 6 seed Milwaukee in a rematch of last year's wild-card round.

Teams will no longer play Game 163 if they end the season in a draw. Instead, the tiebreakers are determined first using the head-to-head records and then, if necessary, using the intradivision records.

Here are the tiebreakers that matter on Monday:

  • The Mets won the tiebreaker against the Diamondbacks.

  • The Braves won the tiebreaker against the Diamondbacks.

  • The Braves are in a tiebreaker against the Mets with two games left to play.
