NEW DELHI: For the first time in its Test history, which dates back to 1933, India were whitewashed 3-0 by New Zealand in a series of three or more matches on Sunday as the visitors triumphed by 25 runs in the third and final Test in Mumbai.
The BlackCaps, who landed here after a 2-0 defeat against a Sri Lankan team, stunned the hosts, putting in exceptional all-round performances in the three Tests and claiming an unprecedented series win.
Posting a tricky 147 on a deteriorating Wankhede track on the third day, India suffered another batting slump and were bowled out for 121, handing the Kiwis a memorable win.
Playing for their pride after conceding a 2-0 lead, India surrendered in the chase with only three batters reaching the double-figure mark in the chase.
Soon after the defeat, the Indian team was criticized from all quarters for their irresponsible performance in the series.

Amid another horror show from the batters, Rishabh Pant was the only bright spot in the chase as he threatened to lose the game with his superb 64-run knock.
However, things went narrowly in his favor in the second session and after that it was only a matter of time for the Kiwi victory.
Left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel took six wickets while part-timer Glenn Phillips also took three wickets as India were bowled out for 121 inside 30 overs.
