Mountaineers face Coastal Carolina on Senior Night

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 7 West Virginia University men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw against Coastal Carolina on Thursday night at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The Mountaineers are 10-1-5 this season while the Chanticleers are now 3-9-3.

West Virginia scores a point and extends its lead in the Sun Belt standings. The Mountaineers are now 5-0-3 in conference play and have 18 points, three ahead of Marshall.

The Mountaineers defeated Coastal Carolina 18-7, but the Chanticleers had a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal. WVU took 13 corners and only conceded one.

In the first half, West Virginia had its best chance just before halftime, but shots came from juniors Marcus Caldeira and senior Frederik Jorgensen were saved by Coastal Carolina's goalie.

The best chance of the game came in the 50th minuteTh Minute when Caldeira took a free kick just outside the penalty area, but his shot hit the right post and whizzed past the goal.

With the Chanticleers content to play defense with 11 players in the box, the Mountaineers took 13 shots in the second half, none of which ended up on the field.

West Virginia ends the regular season on Tuesday, November 5th at No. 6 Marshall. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. A win by the Mountaineers would secure the Sun Belt title for WVU. A Marshall loss to Kentucky on Friday would give the Mountaineers at least a share of the title.
