The Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has scheduled October 24 to hold a public hearing to investigate the ongoing grid failures.

The commission said on its X page on Monday that the hearing would be held at its fourth floor hearing room, Plot 1387, Cadastral Zone Central Business District, Abuja.

“All stakeholders, including civil society organizations (CSOs) and the general public, are invited to the hearing,” NERC said.

NERC said it is mandated to conduct public hearings on critical issues relating to the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).

“Under Section 48, Subsection 1 of the Electricity Act 2023 (Amended), NERC is mandated to conduct public hearings on critical issues relating to NESI.

“The Commission has noted with concern recent increased grid disruptions, which have frequently resulted in significant outages in several states.

“This will undo many of the recent successes in reducing the infrastructure deficit and improving grid stability,” it said.

The grid collapsed on Monday, October 14th, but power was restored the following day.

Saturday's collapse was the second in a week and the seventh in 2024.
