PUBLIC NOTICE

Brunswick County is working with community and state partners to assess impacts and respond to community needs following Potential Tropical Cyclone 8. The following resources are available for those seeking assistance or providing support to those affected by the storm.

Brunswick County Emergency Management has established a call center to answer questions and requests for assistance related to potential Tropical Cyclone 8 and its aftermath. Call the call center at 910-253-5383Individuals can also email their questions to [email protected].

Request support

Participating Brunswick County Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD) organizations provide support and resources to the community following storms and disasters. Residents and visitors needing assistance related to PTC #8 should contact Brunswick County Emergency Management at 910-253-5383 to be placed on an assessment list for support. Support needs may include help with feeding, clothing, moving furniture, cleaning, and more.

Public safety personnel are working to provide a safe place for those they have assisted in rescue operations or dangerous situations. Residents and visitors who need a safe place can call 910-253-5383 and discuss their needs. If anyone feels they are in danger, they should call 9-1-1.

The American Red Cross North Carolina Region has opened an emergency shelter due to flooding caused by excessive rainfall from PTC #8. The shelter is available free of charge to individuals and families who need assistance and want to access resources. The shelter is located at the Brunswick Center in Leland (121 Town Hall Drive, Leland, NC 28451).

  • Baptist on Mission is helping clean up homeowners' properties after the storm. Individuals can sign up for the waitlist online here. Putting your name on this list does not guarantee help from the organization. Families can also contact their Leland and Southport locations to sign up for the waitlist using the phone numbers and emails listed below.

  • Another way to help with the repair of damage is to Crisis cleanup hotline at 910-218-1569. They will help you connect with volunteers from local organizations, groups and faith communities who will help you with tree clearing, removal, covering and collection. Services are free but not guaranteed due to need. The hotline will remain open until October 4, 2024
  • Brunswick Family Support (BFA) offers the community free resources at the following distribution points on Thursday, 19 September from 9:30 a.m. to approx. 12:30 p.m. (while stocks last):
    1. New Hope Clinic at 201 W. Boiling Spring Road in Southport
    2. Ocean View UMC at 8400 E. Oak Island Drive in Oak Island

      Free resources include:

      • Flood bucket (cleaning supplies, gloves, dirt/ID tools)
      • Health packages (toiletries, first aid items, towels)
      • Quilts
      • Some brooms, mops and shovels
      • Backpacks full of school supplies
      • Kitchen sets for use in a hotel

Volunteer or donate

Brunswick County cannot accept donations, but you are welcome to visit the Brunswick County VOAD website to see partner organizations with unmet needs that you can help or support: brunswickcountync.gov/voad. Those interested in volunteering can find volunteer opportunities at brunswickcountync.gov/volunteer. You can also browse local municipality websites at brunswickcountync.gov/municipalities for additional opportunities.
