COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohioans have a little less than a week left to register in time to vote in the 2024 general election.

The voter registration deadline is Monday, October 7, the day before early voting begins in earnest across Ohio. Ohio has one of the earliest voter registration deadlines in the country, although most states set registration deadlines about a month before the election.

In 20 states, voters can both register and vote on Election Day, which falls on November 5th this year. Ohio sets its deadline 30 days before the election.

Ohio's 2024 ballot is packed with important races. Ohioans will decide the most closely watched U.S. Senate race in the country this year as Democratic U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown seeks re-election against Republican businessman Bernie Moreno. On the ballot is a state constitutional amendment that would change the way Ohio sets the state's legislative and congressional boundaries. Races for the state Supreme Court, Congress and both chambers of the Ohio Statehouse will also appear on every ballot.

At the top of the map is the little thing: the 2024 presidential race.

If you want to vote in the 2024 election, first check whether you are already registered. You can enter your name into a state database – https://voterlookup.ohiosos.gov/ – for verification.

Anyone who is a US citizen and will be at least 18 years old on election day is eligible to vote.

Ohio voters can register online through the Ohio Department of State website: https://olvr.ohiosos.gov. You must provide your Ohio driver's license or ID card number, your name, birthday, address, and the last four digits of your Social Security number through the online system.

You can also register in person at your local county board of elections. Addresses and phone numbers for offices in all 88 Ohio counties are available online.

If none of these options suit you, you can send a printed form to your county elections office, but it must be postmarked 30 days before the election. In Cuyahoga County, the form on the website is available in both English and Spanish.

Local libraries also typically have voter registration cards.
