One student in custody, another injured after stabbing at Tift County High School

TIFT COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) – WALB has learned of a stabbing incident that occurred this morning at Tift County High School.

At around 10:00 a.m., several Tift County High School students were involved in an altercation in a restroom that resulted in one student being stabbed.

In response to the situation, the school was cordoned off, paramedics were called and assistance was provided to the injured student.

All parents of Tift County High School students have been notified of the curfew through the district's call system and via email.

Tift County Schools says, “We can confirm that a suspect, also a student at Tift County High School, is in custody. The weapon has been confiscated and no other students were injured in this incident. At this time, we have no further information on the condition of the injured student.”

At around 11:45 a.m. the closure was lifted and school operations resumed normal operations.

Parents were notified and those who wanted to pick up their child were able to do so.

The authorities are investigating.

WALB is working to find out more about the student responsible and the student who was injured. We will update you as soon as we learn more.
