Ole Miss' defensive improvement has been impressive. The Rebels have allowed just 7.5 points per game, the third-fewest point total in the country. The Rebels didn't play as productive an offense as LSU's or as good an offensive line in pass protection, but the Tigers didn't play as good defense either. That could lead to some field goals if touchdowns are needed.

Confidence in LSU should depend on how much confidence you have in the defense. Yes, there's better football being played than this time last year, but has it improved enough to slow down Ole Miss? The answer will tell us whether the Tigers can handle the rest of their schedule and play well enough to secure a spot in the College Football Playoff.

The numbers say the Rebels should win, but there are also intangible factors to consider. LSU is fresh off a bye and is feeling comfortable with a crowd that's expected to break the decibels. Ole Miss is playing its seventh straight game and second straight on the road. And this vaunted offense has found a tougher path in SEC play, averaging 22 ppg. In another Tigers-Rebels classic, LSU makes a late charge that leads to a game-winning field goal from Damian Ramos.

LSU's defense showed signs of improvement against South Alabama. Combine that with an off week, as Ole Miss has played six straight games and the game was at Tiger Stadium, and you have a strong argument for a classic Death Valley upset. But Ole Miss is probably the toughest defense LSU has faced to date, and LSU's defensive blunders through the first four weeks cannot be ignored compared to the Rebels' rushing attack.
