Patrick Mahomes tweet highlights clear trade target for Chiefs at deadline

1 minute, 14 seconds Read

The Kansas City Chiefs look set to become the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowl championships. As a result, the Chiefs have already made a few trades before the deadline to bolster their roster.

Their most important acquisition was the signing of DeAndre Hopkins to bolster an injured receiving corps. Despite the addition of Hopkins, the Chiefs could still use a little more help while Rashee Rice and JuJu Smith-Schuster are out.

However, time is of the essence to add this help with the trade deadline just over 24 hours away. One receiver the Chiefs could get relatively cheaply is former Chief DeMarcus Robinson.

Robinson caught a game-winning touchdown for the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, prompting Patrick Mahomes to send a tweet with red exclamation points.

While it's crazy to infer from this tweet that Mahomes is demanding the Chiefs trade for Robinson, Robinson could help the team. Robinson was drafted by the Chiefs in 2016 and spent six seasons with the team.

From 2018 to 2021, Robinson was one of Mahomes' targets. During that time, Robinson had 114 receptions on 188 targets (60% catch rate) for 1,467 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns.

Not only will Robinson be another sure-fire target for Mahomes, he also knows the system. This means that Robinson can be immediately integrated into the game plan when the number of targets is high.

If the Chiefs acquire Robinson before the trade deadline, Mahomes' tweet on Sunday was a red herring.
