Patriots leader compares Drake Maye to elite NFL quarterback

Drake Maye took the game into his own hands for the New England Patriots on Sunday.

The rookie quarterback led New England (again) with 85 yards on nine carries in a 20-17 loss to the Tennessee Titans. Maye also sent the game into overtime with a dramatic, acrobatic throw to find Rhamondre Stevenson as time expired for a game-winning touchdown.

Maye's impressive performance certainly sparked comparisons from one of his defensive teammates.

“Man, that looked like Josh Allen 2.0,” Davon Godchaux told reporters in Nashville, according to Mark Daniels of MassLive. “He looked fantastic – especially when he ran the ball. I didn't even know the boy had burners like that. When he runs the ball he looks fantastic. I look forward to playing with him and watching him over the next few years.”

Allen joined the Buffalo Bills with the No. 7 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. He changed the team's dynamic as a talented, big-bodied quarterback who made five postseason appearances and an appearance in the 2020 AFC Championship Game.

That's a great goal that Maye will pursue and hopefully exceed for the Patriots as New England works on its rebuild. At this point, one thing feels certain: the Patriots have their next true franchise quarterback.
