Player grades for Michigan States' win over Iowa

1 minute, 59 seconds Read

The Michigan State Spartans earned an impressive and decisive victory over the Iowa Hawkeyes (32-20) in a homecoming showdown.

The Spartans played the most complete game of their season, shutting down Iowa's passing game and finishing drives with points. Aidan Chiles looked as confident as he has all season.

This is an important win for Jonathan Smith's side as they have their most important game of the season next week. The Michigan Wolverines struggled today, but they will certainly be prepared for next Saturday's game.

So, like we've done after every game this season, let's hand out some grades.

Wide receiver Montorie Foster Jr. – This was the senior's best game as a Spartan.

Foster finished the game with five receptions for 100 yards and a touchdown. He ran an excellent route into the end zone and Chiles found him with an impressive throw. He also made a coverage error in the first half that led to a 37-yard shot.

Michigan State needs Foster to emerge as a leader in the second half of the season, and this game was a step in the right direction.

Grade: A-

Defensive defender Nikai Martinez – The UCF transfer has played impressive football since becoming a Spartan.

He made six tackles and intercepted Cade McNamara on a throw near midfield. Jaden Mangham transferred to Michigan in May, and Martinez has fallen well into place as his replacement.

Martinez has formed a formidable safety duo alongside Malik Spencer, and the Spartans will need them to continue their great play as they face strong offenses to close out the season.

Grade: B+

Wide Receiver Nick Marsh – Marsh was everything Spartan fans wanted him to be.

Marsh finished the game with eight receptions for 113 yards. When he landed just short of the goal line, he was called back for a touchdown. Nate Carter punched the ball in from the 1-yard line, giving the Spartans a two-point lead.

Since the Maryland game, swamp took over the WR1 role and did not return it. At just 18 years old, his superstar potential is already evident.

The Chiles March duo should bring Michigan State fans joy for years to come.

Grade: A+
