Election Day 2024: Live results and analysis

Election Day 2024: Live results and analysis

The big day is finally here: Tuesday, November 5th, is Election Day across the United States. Millions of people will go to the polls today — joining more than 80 million who have already voted early or by mail — to decide who controls everything from the white House of Representatives to Congress to state and local governments.

All eyes are, of course, on the presidential race between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. The election is likely to be fought in seven key swing states – Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin – where polls are very close.

West Virginia predicted Trump and Justice

ABC News predicts Trump won West Virginia's four electoral votes. More importantly, ABC News also believes that Republican Jim Justice won the Senate race there and will succeed Democratic independent Joe Manchin.

This is the Republicans' first Senate win of the night, meaning Democrats are already down to 50 seats (and could lose the majority if Trump/Vance wins), even if they retain all the other seats tonight. That's how difficult it would be for her.

With ABC News predicting a win for Justice in the West Virginia Senate race, we can safely say that Jim Justice's English bulldog, Babydog, is heading to DC. While she's no newcomer to the political stage, having attended Justice's appearance at the DNC, this will be her biggest move yet. And if you need a quick break from the deluge of election news, learn more about the frontrunners in politics with 538's political dog quiz.

West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice took the stage with his dog, Babydog, trotting out and taking a padded seat to the governor's right.

Miami-Dade County could shift to the right again

It's always a big moment on election night when Florida's massive Miami-Dade County reports its first election – and it just did. With 70% of expected votes counted in the county, Trump is at 55% and Harris is at 44%. If it stays that way, it would be another big shift to the right for the heavily Hispanic county. In 2020, she voted for Biden by 7 points.

Republican Senate victory in Indiana

ABC News also predicts Republican Jim Banks will win the Indiana Senate race against Democrat Valerie McCray. Banks is a Trump supporter who voted against certifying the 2020 election victory won by Biden, and Trump has endorsed him in that race. Democrats have not won a Senate race in the state since 2012.
