Power outages, fallen trees possible

Remnants of Hurricane Helene will enter the region on Friday and are expected to bring damaging winds and heavy rain.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, tree damage and power outages are possible. The agency has issued a high wind warning for all counties in northern Kentucky, southwest Ohio and southeast Indiana from noon to 10 p.m. Friday.

East winds of 25 to 35 mph are expected and gusts of up to 60 mph are possible.

“Damaging winds will knock down trees and power lines. Large-scale power outages are to be expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles,” the warning said.

Light rain is expected early Friday and then as the tropical system moves through the region, 3 to 4 inches of rain is expected over the region. Rainfall amounts will be lower north of the region.

“Although it has been dry so far, this amount of rain will likely result in some minor flooding as well as significant rises in smaller creeks and streams,” the weather service said.

Showers are expected to continue throughout the weekend.

Friday: The rain can be heavy at times. High near 74. Windy, with a northeast wind 17 to 22 mph increasing to 24 to 29 mph in the afternoon. Wind gusts could reach up to 46 miles per hour. The chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Friday evening: Rainfall before 11 p.m., showers possible after 4 a.m. The rain can be heavy at times. Low around 63. East wind 8 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 60 mph. The chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between half an inch and three-quarters of an inch are possible.

Saturday: Shower. High near 70. East wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. The chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between half an inch and three-quarters of an inch are possible.

Saturday evening: Shower. Low around 63. East winds will reach around 6 mph and become calmer in the evening. The chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half an inch are possible.

Sunday: Showers likely before 2 p.m., then showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 2 and 5 p.m., then showers after 5 p.m. High near 74. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts will be between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, except during thunderstorms and higher amounts are possible.

Sunday evening: Showers, mainly before 8 p.m. Lowest temperature around 63°C. The chance of precipitation is 80%.

Monday: Chance of rain after 8 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
