Predicted Chelsea vs Newcastle lineup: Premier League

2 minutes, 39 seconds Read

After a stunning win against Panathinaikos in the UEFA Conference League, Chelsea will be looking to get back to winning ways in the Premier League when they host Newcastle at Stanford Bridge.

Chelsea suffered a narrow defeat against Liverpool and fell out of the top four. Enzo Maresca's men will be keen not to lose any more ground in the already tight battle for the Champions League places in England. A defeat could see the Blues drop out of the European places, while a win could see them return to where they were before the defeat at Anfield.

Chelsea had a completely different lineup during the week than against Liverpool. In what has become standard practice for Maresca since his appointment, the Blues got the job done in Athens.

Club captain Reece James returned from injury last week and that means Maresca has every registered first-team player available for Sunday, which is unusual for a club that has struggled with injury problems of late.

TW: Robert Sanchez—Filip Jörgensen showed a good performance against Panathinaikos. Sánchez has put in a solid performance but continues to be shaky at times, failing to give Chelsea fans confidence.

LB: Malo Gusto—Marc Cucurella played 90 minutes on Thursday, so Gusto looks set to keep his place in Sunday's XI. He could make way for the Spaniard in the coming weeks as he is not a natural left-back.

CB: Levi Colwill—Colwill was to blame for the penalty that Mohamed Salah scored on the first goal of the game last weekend. He will try to bounce back after an otherwise good start to the season.

CB: Wesley Fofana—Fofana returns from suspension and moves into the starting line-up as Colwill's partner.

RB: Reece James—It's no secret that when fit, James has the talent to be one of the best right-backs in the world. He needs to play regularly to regain the form that saw him soar under Thomas Tuchel.

CM: Moises Caicedo—Caicedo will be key to commanding the midfield against one of the toughest and most physical trios in the league.

CM: Romeo Lavia—Maresca surprised many by dropping Enzo Fernández in favor of Lavia against the Reds. The Belgian was one of Chelsea's best players at Anfield.

LW: Jadon Sancho—Despite having a promising start to his Chelsea career, Sancho failed to impress against Liverpool and Pedro Neto replaced him at the start of the second half. Mykhailo Mudryk was fantastic against Panathinaikos, so Sancho needs a strong performance to remain the preferred option in the EPL going forward.

AM: Cole Palmer—No team did a better job of limiting Palmer's impact on the game than Liverpool did last weekend. Chelsea's talisman will look to bounce back and score his 12th goal of the EPL season.

RW: Noni Madueke—Madueke appeared to be Chelsea's most dangerous player at Anfield and continues to show great progress under Maresca.

ST: Nicolas Jackson—Jackson seemed like a completely different player under Maresca. His development as a striker is a promising sign for Chelsea fans.
