Manchester United's bid to hire Sporting CP coach Rúben Amorim is getting closer after the Portuguese club informed the country's financial regulator that the Premier League team has confirmed its willingness to meet Amorim's release clause of €10,000 To pay 10 million euros (10.79 million US dollars).

Amorim is scheduled to take charge of Sporting in their Taca da Liga game against Nacional at Estadio Jose Alvalade on Tuesday night, but it could be the 39-year-old's last game as manager after the move to United was confirmed.

Due to its stock market listing, Portuguese champions Sporting are obliged to inform the CMVM – Portugal's financial regulator – of any material impact on the club's business. This afternoon the club released a statement outlining United's offer for Amorim.

The statement to the CMVM states: “Sporting comes in accordance with the conditions and for the purpose of fulfilling the obligation to provide information arising from the provisions of Article 17.º of Regulation (EU) No. 596/2014, of the European Parliament and the European Parliament results.” The Council of April 16 informed the market as follows: “1. Manchester United FC expressed interest in hiring coach Rúben Amorim and the board of Sporting SAD referred to the conditions provided for in the employment contract in force between the company and the coach, in particular with regard to the respective termination clause and the amount of Euro 10,000,000.00;

“2. “Manchester United FC has expressed an interest in paying Sporting SAD the amount of this clause.”

While it is unclear at this stage whether Amorim has accepted the challenge of succeeding Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, United are determined to complete a deal with the highly-rated manager ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash against Chelsea.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, who was hired as Ten Hag's assistant coach in the summer, has been appointed interim coach by United until a permanent appointment is made and the former United and Real Madrid striker will take charge of the Carabao Cup match against Leicester City on Wednesday at Old Trafford.

However, it is likely that the game against Leicester will be Van Nistelrooy's only game in charge if talks with Sporting and Amorim continue to progress apace.

Amorim has led Sporting to two league titles since joining the club from Braga in 2020. Before Amorim's appointment, Sporting had to wait 19 years to end their title drought.

The former Portuguese midfielder was considered by Liverpool, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and West Ham for their vacant managerial positions last season before committing his future to Sporting at the end of last season.

However, according to reports from Portugal, Sporting are now preparing for Amorim's departure this week with João Pereira, coach of the club's B team, taking over for the remainder of the season.

Amorim was praised for his time at Sporting by United captain Bruno Fernandes.

“Since coach Amorim came to Sporting, they have become one of the teams that play better and most consistent football. I think the signings were right and they are in a very good phase. They won last year and took the lead this season.” “It's a very well-prepared team,” he said at a press conference with Portugal earlier this month.

“Regarding Mr Amorim, I have spoken about him several times and said that he is well prepared at this moment because it is not easy to win titles at Sporting. Sporting hadn't won any trophies for 20 years. Mr. Amorim came and won two and.” This proves that his work was good.

“Whether he will be able to do the same in England, Spain or elsewhere? We’ll never know until he gets there, but I’m sure Mr. Amorim’s qualities are there in everyone’s eyes.”
