The 2024 NFL trade deadline has arrived, marking a crucial decision day across the league.

With Tuesday's deadline looming at 4:00 p.m. ET, teams have one final opportunity to make a meaningful change in the season, whether it's making a splash on an established veteran or sending one out to bolster their draft capital or to improve their salary cap outlook. Several franchises have already benefited from this, securing contracts with big names, and more could follow in the coming hours.

The Washington Commanders were one of the few teams at the top of the league that hadn't made a significant move by the trade deadline.

That changed on Tuesday when the team completed a deal to sign New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore. According to multiple reports, the Kansas City Chiefs were also in the picture.

The four-time Pro Bowl selection makes up for one of Washington's biggest positional weaknesses. Opposing passers have a 103.9 rating so far this season against the Commanders defense, which ranks 28th in the NFL.

The 28-year-old Lattimore is out with a hamstring injury.

Amid a flood of other big-name wide receivers being traded, DK Metcalf remains.

The Seattle Seahawks will not trade the two-time Pro Bowl selection, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Tuesday.

Metcalf has 35 catches for 568 yards and three touchdowns so far this season for the 4-5 Seahawks, who are just one game out of first place in the NFC West.

Azeez Ojulari, OLB, New York Giants: He's had a strong performance with five sacks in his last four games. But if Za'Darius Smith's trade to the Detroit Lions opens up the market for pass rushers, will the potential return be enough to convince GM Joe Schoen to make a deal?
Dalvin Tomlinson, DT, Cleveland Browns: He and fellow defensive tackle Shelby Harris would certainly make sense to be the next veterans released by a team that has clearly signaled its interest in a long-term commitment.
Arden Key, OLB, Tennessee Titans: Like the Browns, the Titans have made it clear they will consider moving established players who are drawing interest elsewhere. Key and defensive player Sebastian Joseph-Day could be on the radar for teams looking to strengthen their front lines.

Jerry Jones at least had a step up his sleeve.

The Dallas Cowboys agreed to acquire wide receiver Jonathan Mingo from the Carolina Panthers, sending a fourth-round pick while also receiving a seventh-round pick, a person with knowledge of the deal told Tyler Dragon of USA TODAY Sports. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal was not yet official.

NFL Network was first to report the move.

Prior to the deal, Jones said Tuesday during an interview with 105.3 The Fan that the team would be bringing in a receiver that the team really liked during the draft process.

The 23-year-old Mingo was a 2023 second-round pick out of Mississippi. He struggled to make a name for himself amid the Panthers' larger offensive woes, catching just 43 of 85 targets in his rookie season. He has just 12 catches for 121 yards in nine games this year.

The Cowboys' takeover comes amid serious injuries to the 3-5 team's offense. Quarterback Dak Prescott will likely be placed on injured reserve and miss at least four games because of his hamstring injury, Jones said Tuesday. Top wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is also dealing with a shoulder injury.

The Cincinnati Bengals have added depth in the backfield as they prepare for a potential late-season run.

The Bengals are acquiring running back Khalil Herbert from the Chicago Bears in exchange for a 2025 seventh-round draft pick, the Bears announced.

The Bengals' prospects at running back Chase Brown were uncertain after Zack Moss was sidelined indefinitely with a neck injury that kept him out of Sunday's win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Moss 74 has rushed for 242 yards and two touchdowns so far this season.

Herbert, 26, has been a healthy player in the last two games for the Bears. He has just eight carries for 16 yards this season as starter D'Andre Swift and backup Roschon Johnson have done the bulk of the work. However, last season he managed 611 yards, averaging 4.6 yards per carry.

The Detroit Lions finally have their fill-in pass rusher.

The team acquired Za'Darius Smith from the Cleveland Browns on Tuesday, according to multiple reports. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Smith and a 2026 seventh-round draft pick are headed to the Lions, who in turn will receive a 2025 fifth-round draft pick and a 2026 sixth-round draft pick.

Lions coach Dan Campbell had admitted for weeks that the team was looking for a defensive replacement for Pro Bowl selection Aidan Hutchinson, who suffered a broken tibia and fibula against the Dallas Cowboys.

“I don’t think it’s just us,” Campbell said Monday. “I can tell you we're trying, (Lions general manager) Brad (Holmes) is trying, and we've really looked at everything. We made a lot of calls and he kept going, so we're going to do it.” See. We still have a bit of time here, so we'll see what happens.

Smith has five sacks in nine games so far this season.

The deadline comes midseason because NFL owners voted in March to push the season back a week from its traditional spot on the league calendar. After Tuesday, teams cannot make official deals until the start of the new league year in March, but they can unofficially agree to deals after the season.
