Before the Oklahoma City Thunder's comeback win over the LA Clippers, the Oklahoma City Thunder's game experience probably felt more like a road trip than a November outing.

After all, it was the first time the Thunder had broken a sweat in the Intuit Dome. The newest NBA arena opened this season for the Clippers, who previously shared Crypto Dotcom Arena with the Los Angeles Lakers.

It will be a season-long storyline focused on seeing how visiting players react to the new, state-of-the-art arena. Clippers owner Steve Ballmer was proud of his creation and allowed LA to build its identity.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander discussed the new arena after the Thunder's win. The 26-year-old spent his first season with the Clippers before being sent to OKC as part of the infamous 2019 Paul George trade.

“It was cool. Obviously a different feeling,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “The stands feel a little more on top of the pitch. Kind of like college. Yeah, it was cool.”

Gilgeous-Alexander probably means the Clippers fan wall. The seats positioned at the free throw line are designed to create a fan mountain. The gimmick is intended to create an artificial home-field advantage at the free throw line that can flip the results of games.

Chet Holmgren agreed with Gilgeous-Alexander's response. The 22-year-old mentioned OKC's new arena, which is scheduled to open for the 2028/29 season.

Holmgren asked, “Do you think our arena is getting cooler?”

Gilgeous-Alexander replied, “Absolutely.”

The reaction is music to Thunder fans' ears – it suggests that Gilgeous-Alexander could potentially stay beyond his current contract, which expires in 2027. He is eligible for a supermax extension this coming offseason. Holmgren will certainly be in OKC as well, as the new arena opens as part of his upcoming contract extension that he will sign this coming offseason.

Still, Thunder fans shouldn't read too much into this little exchange. There are still four years until 2028, which is an eternity in the NBA. Instead, Thunder fans should focus on their current squad, which has looked like a title contender through six games.
