Albany State University was full of dancing, cheering and celebration on Saturday after the Golden Rams won the university's home game.

Hours later, a shooting on the school campus in southwest Georgia left one person dead and several others injured, university officials said.

“We were informed that six people sustained injuries. Unfortunately, one of them has been reported deceased,” the university said in a statement on Sunday.

According to the university, the shooting occurred around 8:50 p.m. Saturday, around the time a “Back to the Yard Celebration Concert” was being held on the Lower East Campus as part of the school's Homecoming Week celebrations.

CNN has reached out to local police and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for further information on the incident. The victims' names have not been released and it is unclear whether students were involved.

Albany State University is a historically black university in Albany, Georgia, about 200 miles south of Atlanta, with about 6,500 students, according to the university.

The shooting occurred the same day that three people were killed and eight others injured at another homecoming event outside Lexington, Mississippi. It also follows an Oct. 12 shooting near Tennessee State University in Nashville that left one man dead and nine other people injured after the school's homecoming celebration.

The shootings are among at least 422 mass shootings reported in the United States so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive, which, like CNN, defines a mass shooting as one in which four or more people are injured or killed, not including the shooter .
