After missing the Philadelphia 76ers' season opener on Wednesday, Paul George will also miss the team's two-game road trip that begins Friday.

The Sixers say George is “progressing well in his recovery” and an update on his status will be released early next week. according to ESPN's Shams Charania.

Philadelphia faces the Toronto Raptors on Friday, followed by a matinee matchup with the Indiana Pacers on Sunday. The team then has two days off before hosting the Detroit Pistons next Wednesday. The Sixers lost their season opener 124:109 against the Milwaukee Bucks.

George suffered a bone bruise in his hyperextended left knee during a preseason game against the Atlanta Hawks on Oct. 14 and has been out since.

George, a 14-year NBA veteran, signed a four-year, $212 million maximum contract with the Sixers in July after playing the past five seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers. Last season, he averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 47.1% from the floor and 41.3% on 3-pointers ( a career high).

The Sixers will also not have Joel Embiid on the roster for the next two games because he suffered a left knee injury. Embiid did not play in the season opener in Philadelphia. He will be re-evaluated this weekend. However, the NBA is investigating the Sixers and whether the team violated league rules regarding the suspension of Embiid despite no specific injury status.

According to head coach Nick Nurse, both players looked like they were making progress at practice on Thursday.

“They were both on duty for the most part. I think they are improving and making progress,” Nurse told reporters, via the Philadelphia Inquirer. “In the beginning it was just basic things and kind of live exercises. The half court for a while too.”

Neither George nor Embiid took part in the five-on-five duel, which the team prefers to do before play is released.
