Spider-Noir: Everything We Know About the Live-Action Spider-Man Noir Series

Nicolas Cage repeats his Spider-Verse Dubbing role as Spider-Man Noir in a new live-action series. Fans were introduced to Cage's version of the noir-inspired webslinger in 2018 Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verseand although he only had a brief cameo in the sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-VerseSpider-Man Noir is expected to play a larger role Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. As Sony Pictures looks to bring its Spider-Man universe to the big screen, Spider Noir will propel the streaming franchise forward. Spider-Man Noir has a loyal fanbase and there is interest in what the first live-action Spider-Man series will look like.

Spider-Noir replaces Silk: Spider Society as the first live-action Spider-Man series

It wasn't the first officially announced live-action Spider-Man series Spider Noir; it was actually Silk: Spider Society. The Amazon/MGM and Sony Pictures Television joint venture was announced back in November 2022, with The Walking Dead Universe writer/producer Angela Kang serving as showrunner. Silk: Spider-Society wanted to kick off the Spider-Man TV universe with a domestic release on MGM+ before making it available worldwide on Prime Video.

However, we learned at the beginning of the year Silk: Spider Society would ultimately not move forward on Amazon as Sony Pictures Television sold the show to other buyers. There were problems with the development of the show Silk: Spider SocietyThe writers' room was abandoned and the show was reconfigured to somehow not focus on its main character, Silk.

Spider-Man Noir is getting the live-action treatment

Enter Spider-Man Noir. In February 2023, reports surfaced that Amazon was working on a live-action Spider-Man Noir series, although Nicolas Cage was not involved in the project at the time. The character hails from Earth-90214 in the Marvel Comics Multiverse, a Depression-era world where Marvel's superheroes are reimagined to fit the aesthetic of noir detective films. Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, with whom the series was developed, will serve as showrunners Into the Spider-VerseThese are Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Amy Pascal.

It has not been officially announced that Nicolas Cage will star Spider Noir until May 2024. The show was originally called Noirbut now it seems to have adopted the name Spider Noir, possibly to let the audience know that it is part of the Spider-Man universe.

Along with Nicolas Cage, one of the first actors to be associated with Spider Noir Was New girl Star Lamorne Morris, who plays fan-favorite Spider-Man character Robbie Robertson. To get attention and a paycheck, he takes on riskier stories that no one else would touch. He’s willing to do whatever it takes for his career.”

Golden Globe and Oscar winner Brendan Gleeson (He Banshees of Inisherin) plays the villain of Spider Noir. Details about Gleeson's role were not immediately available, but Marvel's original Spider-Man Noir The comic reimagined many of Spider-Man's classic villains as gangster types in 1930s New York. They included Norman “The Goblin” Osborn, a carnival freak turned crime boss, and his showman friends Kraven (a former animal trainer), the Vulture (an animalistic freak show cannibal), and the Chameleon (a master of disguise).

Li Jun Li (Wu assassin) also joins in Spider Noir as a “singer in the best nightclub in New York” and The miracles Star Abraham Popoola plays “a World War I veteran looking for a way to move forward.” Additionally, eight additional actors have been added to the live-action Spider-Man series: Lukas Haas (beginning), Cameron Britton (Mindhunter), Cary Christopher (Days of our lives), Michael Kostroff (Luke Cage), Scott MacArthur (The Righteous Gems), Joe Massingill (Barry), Whitney Rice (Jury duty) and Amanda Schull (Suits) in recurring roles.

Spider-Man Noir rocks a comic-accurate costume in a live-action series

Fans were recently able to see photos of Nicolas Cage on the site Spider Noir set, and there are even photos of the iconic black costume Noir wears in it Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse animated film. The first photos show Nicolas Cage maskless in a black trench coat, acting out a strange-looking sequence in which he is both kneeling and lying on the ground, seemingly dodging or running from an invisible force or attacker.

However, it's the comic-book-accurate photos that will catch fans' attention. It should be noted that this is not Nicolas Cage in the Spider-Man Noir costume; more of a stunt double performing the action sequence where our hero sits on the roof of a speeding car.

Nicolas Cage revealed how many episodes the first season of has Spider Noir will consist of. “Forty-five minutes. I mean, it's eight episodes. So that's the equivalent of four films in five months. Spider Noir tells the story of “an aging and unhappy private detective (Cage) in 1930s New York who is forced to confront his former life as the city's only superhero,” reads the official logline.

Emmy-winning director Harry Bradbeer (Fleabag, Killing Eve) oversees the series and is executive producer for the first two episodes. Oren Uziel (The Lost City, 22 Jump Street) and Steve Lightfoot (Marvel's The Punisher, Shantaram) serve as co-showrunners and executive producers and developed the series together with the Oscar-winning team behind them Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Versewhich includes Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Amy Pascal. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios.

What is Spider-Noir release date?

Spider Noir will debut domestically on MGM+'s linear channel, then worldwide on Prime Video in 2025.
