Libertarian Chase Oliver seizes second chance to be called a killjoy by Old Party candidates who dodge their own mistakes

DALLAS — Libertarian presidential candidate Chase Oliver expects the whining to begin once the election results come in on election night, as it always does in close races.

“Four years ago, Donald Trump accused Jo Jorgensen of being the election spoiler. And if we could disrupt the political process and gain that prominence, we would be happy to do that, whether it be a taint for Harris or a taint for Trump.”

“Someone will blame us in November for why their preferred candidate lost.”

Oliver experienced it two years ago when he ran for the U.S. Senate seat in Georgia, and pundits credited his votes with triggering a runoff.

Libertarians and other grassroots candidates give legacy party candidates a built-in excuse: It's the third-party candidate's fault.

The false spoiler logic ignores the fact that voters who support libertarians wouldn't vote otherwise. Many non-voters describe their refusal to participate as a silent protest against sham elections.

If “Did Not Vote” had been considered an electoral vote in 2016, “Did Not Vote” would have received 490 Electoral College votes, far more than the 270 needed to win. More than 96 million Americans of the 230 million eligible voters did not vote, and of those who were registered, only 58.4 percent did.

Chase Oliver advocates for his supporters and non-voters alike.

He didn't get out.

And he didn't spoil the election.

“You can’t spoil what’s already rotten.”
