Steelers news: Pittsburgh falls to 3-1 in Week 4 due to defensive issues

1 minute, 13 seconds Read

The Pittsburgh Steelers suffered their first loss of the 2024 season in Week 4 on the road against the Indianapolis Colts, losing 27-24. They nearly managed to win a game on their final possession, but a mistake by rookie center Zach Frazier on a snap in the fourth quarter forced a loss that ended up being too much to overcome.

It was a brutal performance on most fronts, but especially on defense, where there wasn't much stopping Teryl Austin's unit – including former Baltimore Ravens rival Joe Flacco, who came into the game as a replacement for Anthony Richardson, who had one eliminated hip injury at the start of Sunday's competition.

The offense also had its ups and downs and had to deal with several injuries, particularly on the offensive line. Starting left guard Isaac Seumalo was out before the game, while starting right guard James Daniels was out for that game with an ankle injury. Still, quarterback Justin Fields led the team to its most promising performance so far this season, accounting for three total touchdowns, including two on the ground and one through the air for TE Pat Freiermuth.

The Steelers host the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football in Week 5 for their second home game of the season and are currently 2-2. Pittsburgh currently leads the AFC North with a record of 3-1, while the Bengals are 1-3 and the Ravens and Browns are each 1-2 heading into their Week 4 games.
