Summary: No treats, just tricks as the Bruins get smoked in Carolina

3 minutes, 1 second Read

On a day full of sugar and spookiness, the Bruins put on a performance scarier than any Halloween horror movie, getting beaten by the Hurricanes 8-2 in Raleigh.

If you were hoping for a resurgent performance from the B's on Tuesday after a frustrating night against Philadelphia, you absolutely didn't get it.

Instead, the Bruins were bad on defense, bad on special teams, inept on offense and generally looked helpless against Carolina.

Brad Marchand and Hampus Lindholm each scored a goal for the Bruins, but that was no consolation.

Jeremy Swayman didn't even manage to make it through half the game after allowing six goals on 22 shots – although it would be difficult to point to Swayman as the problem.

No, this was a team-wide debacle, a loss that adds even more pressure to a team already feeling it.

Six minutes into the game, Jack Roslovic scored the first goal, beating Swayman from the high position with the Bruins still facing a penalty. 1-0 Carolina.

Things weren't looking too bad for the B's when Brad Marchand cashed in on a 5-on-3 power play seven minutes later to make it a win 1:1 game.

Annnnnnnnnnnnd then the wheels fell off!

The Bruins allowed three goals in just about 60 seconds of play to end the first period.

Andrei Svechnikov did it 2-1 Carolina 2:46 left in the first half.

Dmitry Orlov did it 3-1 Carolina 38 seconds later.

Martin Necas benefited from a friendly serve in the power play 4-1 Carolina just 14 seconds of game time after Orlov's goal.

Lindholm would give the Bruins some life four minutes into the second period, scoring his second goal of the year 4-2 Carolina.

This was as close as possible. About five minutes later, Svechnikov scored again on the power play to tie the game 5-2 Carolina.

About 40 seconds later, Roslovic scored again to equalize 6-2 Carolina.

Sean Walker would add insult to injury in the third period and make it 7-2 Carolina.

Annnnnnd then Jesperi Kotkaniemi added another midway through the third to make it 8-2 Carolina.

Yes, 8-2.

Luckily that was the finale.

Hey, at least the Hurricanes didn't reach double figures!

Game notes

  • Shot! No offense. Terrible team defense. Bad special teams. Bad, bad, bad, bad, bad. To be honest, this game probably wasn't as close as a six-goal deficit would suggest. It might as well have been 18-2.
  • The Bruins allowed three power play goals on five opportunities for Carolina; They only earned money on one of five power plays of their own.
  • The Bruins had five shots on goal in the first period and just five in the second. You would think that the B's would chase the game in the third period and increase their attempts at the net, but no. How many shots did they have in the third? Five!
  • To be honest, I'm not even sure what else to say. This performance was a disaster in all aspects of the game. At least against Philly, you could point to frustration, blocked shots, “close but not quite,” etc. That wasn't it. That was a blow.
  • How do you fix this? Good question. You tried to juggle your lyrics. Draft from Providence? Trade? It still seems too early for a coaching change, but if there are one or two more appearances like this in the next few weeks, it might not be off the table just yet.

I will no longer spend pixels on my findings on this game. Write it in the comments instead.

The B's will be back in action Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia.
