A teenager has died in a shooting early Wednesday morning in the North Linden area.

Officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of East Weber Road at 12:03 a.m. after receiving a report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, they found a male victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound lying on the sidewalk. The victim was taken to Riverside Hospital in critical condition, where he later died.

Authorities believe the victim is in his mid to late teens but are still working to confirm his identity.

Several witnesses were present at the crime scene. Police believe the victim was involved in an altercation with three black men at the time of the shooting. No further description of the suspect is available at this time.

“It is devastating to say that we have lost the life of a teenager tonight – it is only more devastating because this person had the rest of his life ahead of him and it ended tragically tonight. And that's… that's super sad for our city,” Sergeant shared. Joe Albert of the Columbus Police Department.

According to recent murder figures, almost 20% of the people killed this year were under the age of twenty.

Homicide detectives are investigating the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Columbus Police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730.
