The Astros' $119 million star expects to cut ties with Houston in favor of the Yankees

The Houston Astros failed to reach the World Series in 2024. After being a consistent force in the American League, they failed to even reach the American League Championship Series. They will have a big decision to make regarding Alex Bregman in free agency.

While Bleacher Report's Erik Beaston predicted the New York Yankees' offseason moves, he predicted that Bregman would leave the Astros in free agency and sign with the Yankees.

“The same goes for Bregman, who has spent his entire career in Houston and may want to swap jerseys this offseason. He hit 26 home runs, scored 75 RBI and had 151 total hits in 2024,” Beaston wrote. “With Soto expected to go to the Mets, look for the Yankees to make a splash elsewhere. Bregman is more likely to join the team and continue his career at a position where the Bronx Bombers could use an upgrade.”

Bregman has been one of the most consistent players at third base since entering the big leagues. Spotrac expects him to sign a four-year, $119 million contract this winter.

The Yankees' top priority will be keeping Juan Soto in the Bronx. However, Beaston expects to sign with the New York Mets, meaning the Yankees will have room for a player like Bregman.

“Busy (Jon) Heyman linked the organization with Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman and Orioles right fielder Anthony Santander, both of whom are available for significantly less than Soto,” Beaston wrote.
