The Chargers hesitate as the undefeated Chiefs trade for DeAndre Hopkins

The Los Angeles Chargers just lost a game 17-15 despite Justin Herbert rushing for 349 yards while settling for five field goals because of mediocre position players.

The Kansas City Chiefs, the only undefeated team in the NFL and ahead of the Chargers in the AFC West with Patrick Mahomes at quarterback, had several injuries at wideout and could still improve offensively.

The Chiefs, of course, are sending the Tennessee Titans a conditional fifth-round pick that can turn into a fourth-round pick.

The Chargers, meanwhile, are still being mentioned in the latest Mike Williams trade rumors. But after Hopkins was taken off the market, prices for other wideouts on the trading block rose as needy teams found their list of options shrinking. There's Cooper Kupp to consider, among others, but Hopkins was a nice half-season hire – and it wasn't too much to ask for a Day 3 pick to make that happen.

Unless something unexpected happens, the Chargers will continue to rely on DJ Chark, when he actually gets healthy and is on the field, to be the vertical threat to open up the rest of the offense.

Until then, Chargers fans could be dealing with nights like last Monday, where Will Dissly is the leading receiver (81 yards) and dominates target share (11), while the majority of Herbert's incompletions are mistakes on his targets, including one Player who converts a touchdown into a touchback.
