The Rams' Sean McVay received most of the praise for the underrated group

The Los Angeles Rams (4-4) have had one of the most notable wins of the NFL season so far this year. A 10-point deficit was erased by an incredible defensive performance, followed by a sweeping overtime win against NFC West rival Seattle Seahawks (4-5).

Head coach Sean McVay spoke to the media after the game and praised the defense for their ability to keep the Rams in the game.

The Rams started off slow with just three points in the first half and didn't do themselves any favors with the way they ended the half. The Seahawks scored 13 points in the final minute and took a 13-3 lead into halftime.

“If you really look at it, it's a back and forth early in the football game with nothing really getting going on either side,” McVay said after the game. “And then the half ended the way it did, completely out of character for what we expect from our football team.”

Since there were many reasons for the Rams to hang their heads and lose mental concentration, they didn't shy away from the break. They went on a 23-7 run to close out the contest, and a big part of that was the defensive play of several freshmen.

Defensive tackle Braden Fiske, safety Kamren Kinchens and safety Jaylen McCollough had big performances in the second half, holding the Seahawks to just one point in the final 30 minutes and overtime.

“I was really proud of the way we came out in the second half,” McVay said. “They had all the momentum, we did a lot of things to beat ourselves. They were down 13-3 and we found a way to equalize after a few tries apiece. I would have loved it for us. “I was able to make that shot and come away with the touchdown, but good, long-lasting offense. I thought our coaches did a good job on offense and made some adjustments to get ahead, got Kyren ( RB Kyren Williams faltered a little bit and then we faltered and Kam Kinchens popped up, it Felt like Braden Fiske was in the backfield all day, but really all of us did an outstanding job coming up with another interception.

Fiske led the team with two sacks, Kinchens had two interceptions, including a 103-yard interception touchdown return that set a franchise record, and McCollough secured his third pick in the last two weeks.

The Seahawks would score their only score in the second half with only the second period remaining in regulation time. A touchdown strike from quarterback Geno Smith would tie the ballgame and send it into overtime. The Rams would lose the coin toss and had to bow out on defense at the start.

They did just that with a game-saving fourth down stop that kept Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III from reaching the line and forcing the turnover. Game-winning drive king, Matthew Staffordwould lead the Rams with a four-play, 83-yard touchdown drive to seal the victory.

“What I thought was great is we got the stop in overtime,” McVay said. “I mean, credit to them for scoring a goal, taking the game into overtime and then going to overtime. They win the throw, they drive the ball right down the field, and they decide to go for it on fourth-and-1.” In field goal range, our defense makes a huge stop and a few plays later, Demarcus Robinson catches in “We got a great ball in the end zone from Matthew Stafford and when we got the ball in overtime we said keep the ball in big nine (Stafford's) hand.”

The Rams have now won three games in a row and are well underway in the NFC West with a 2-1 record. They are now tied for second place in the division with the San Francisco 49ers and will look to keep their winning streak alive when they welcome the Miami Dolphins (2-6) to Sofi Stadium next week.
