The New York Rangers defeated the Boston Bruins 5-2 on Thursday night, marking their third straight preseason victory.

Unlike their last win in the preseason, the Rangers played a really solid 60 minutes of hockey.

The biggest winner of the evening was probably Brennan Othmann.

Othmann is fighting for a place in the squad and desperately needed a strong performance, and it's safe to say he delivered

The 21-year-old played an aggressive game and that tenacity led to a highlight-reel goal as he fought to steal the puck from Nikita Zadorov and then scored on a breakaway.

“I felt much better than in the last game,” said Othmann. “I thought that was one of my better games out of the three I played in. I felt pretty good, just confident with the puck. I just want to go out there and contribute however I can.”

Kaapo Kakko was a player who came under intense scrutiny, but he showed what he was truly capable of.

There was composure when Kakko had the puck on his stick and he seemed to have a good read on the play.

The 2019 runner-up also used his body to his advantage in the offensive zone. All of these qualities that Kakko displayed were noticed by Peter Laviolette.

“He's working,” Laviolette said, “You can see he's out there competing… I think Kaaps had a good game tonight.”

With Ryan Lindgren out for at least a few weeks, Victor Mancini has a real chance of making the opening lineup.

Mancini provided the Rangers with a reliable physical presence and was a truly solid defensive anchor that the team could use in Lindgren's absence.

The Rangers are now 3-0 in the preseason and their next game is Monday night against the New Jersey Devils.
