Heavy snow continued to fall in Colorado on Thursday morning, and National Weather Service forecasters said the storm could continue through the weekend.

According to NWS radars, snow cover and intensity increased Thursday morning across the Plains and greater Colorado.

The Palmer Divide and Eastern Plains will see the heaviest snowfall on Thursday, with possible accumulations of up to 11 inches, according to NWS forecasters. The Denver area could see another 1 to 4 inches, and even more snow is expected to fall in the southern metro area.

Forecasters said the Plains and metro area will experience “dangerous to nearly impossible travel conditions,” with greater travel impacts south of Interstate 70.

Meteorologists said a winter storm warning will be in effect for most of the Denver area from Thursday night through Saturday morning. The exact time frames for the watch were not available.

“Moderate to heavy snow is possible … Friday into Saturday morning as the storm system from recent days is expected to finally move out of the area,” forecasters said in a warning of dangerous weather. The snow is expected to taper off across Colorado Thursday evening before snow returns Friday morning.

The Eastern Plains could see up to 30 cm of snow from Friday afternoon into Saturday morning, forecasters said in the weather advisory.
