Syracuse astronaut returns to Earth after seven months in space: Syracuse astronaut Jeanette Epps is safely back on Earth after seven months in space. A SpaceX capsule carrying Epps and three other astronauts crashed into the Gulf of Mexico just off the coast of Florida early Friday morning. While on the International Space Station, she celebrated Dolphy Day at Le Moyne and spoke to Syracuse school children and Syracuse.com.

Longtime Syracuse radio host returns with a podcast: Jim Reith is back in front of a microphone. The former Syracuse radio host has launched a new hyperlocal podcast called “The Jim Reith Show: Unleashed” to delve deeper into Central New York issues. “I felt like there was a gap, especially in electronic media,” Reith said.

Closing a nonprofit cafe is a setback, but “we have plans to make it right,” says CEO: Since its founding in 2017, Hope Cafe and Tea House in Central New York has used the profits of its locations to help those in need at home and abroad. Its nonprofit arm, The People Project, has raised up to $100,000 annually in recent years. However, this mission was impacted by the unexpected closure of Hope Cafe's largest location on Old Liverpool Road.

A proposed amendment introduces language that would allow the council to fire the Citizen Review Board administrator for, among other things, “creating a hostile work environment.”

Warby Parker opens first location in Syracuse area: Warby Parker — a national retailer that sells prescription glasses, contact lenses and sunglasses — is opening a store in the eastern suburbs of Syracuse. This will be the iconic retailer's first location in Onondaga County.

Free early detection of memory loss and dementia available: Residents aged 60 and over in seven CNY counties and northern counties can receive a free memory loss screening at their local Office on Aging starting in November. The screening is part of a year-long project conducted by researchers at Upstate Medical University and Syracuse University.

Misery for McCord: QB came through five times in an impressive loss to Pitt: The Syracuse football team traveled to Pittsburgh with hopes of earning a nationally televised victory and advancing to the Top 25. Instead, the Panthers returned three first-half interceptions by Kyle McCord for touchdowns and dominated the Orange 41-13.
