The Texas Longhorns offensive line continues to struggle against Vanderbilt

1 minute, 56 seconds Read

The two times the Texas Longhorns gave Vanderbilt the short field, the Commodores took full advantage, scoring 14 points. The turnovers, in addition to the Longhorns' 10 penalties, either took points off the scoreboard for Texas or added more in Vanderbilt's favor.

With a bye week between this game and the home game against Florida on November 9th, the Longhorns offense will have to work on avoiding these simple mistakes to avoid struggling against the Gators and the rest of the teams on the schedule.

The Texas O-line allowed four sacks in addition to nine tackles for loss, and while that's a small improvement over the six sacks allowed against Georgia last Saturday, it's far from the standard that head coach Steve Sarkisian preaches. This team is experienced and has no excuse not to play at the best level and we know they can be even better. Through the first six games of the season, the offensive line has allowed just six sacks, but that number has nearly doubled in recent weeks and is now at 11.

Sarkisian attributes much of the problems to the number of penalties the team had.

“I was a little frustrated,” Sarkisian said. “It's one thing that you get a holding penalty on a one-yard run, we got holding penalties on chunk plays, and then you fall behind. You get off schedule. I think when we're on schedule as an offense, we're really good, and in the second half we got off schedule and things got difficult for us.”

Texas had to punt four times for 145 yards, which was still less than Vanderbilt's five for 241 yards.

The next two weeks will be crucial in developing a solid offensive line that will need to improve communication and discipline moving forward.
