“The Wild Robot” by Chris Sanders lands at number 1

Universal's Dreamworks Animation is two for two in 2024 as both theatrical releases have now opened at No. 1 in the US market.

Overseas, the story isn't much better for the Josh Cooley-directed film. Transformers One managed just $16.6 million across 61 markets, with nearly half of that coming from a No. 1 launch in China ($8 million). It grossed $32.8 million internationally, with a global total of $71.9 million.

It should be noted that the film's $75 million budget was split three ways between Paramount, Hasbro, and New Republic Pictures. Even if the film is in the red after marketing and distribution, the losses will be limited due to the common financing structure.
