The World Series champion talks about Freddie Freeman's father's influence on the Dodgers star

3 minutes, 21 seconds Read

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman has had a fantastic performance so far in the World Series against the New York Yankees.

Freeman is a big reason the Dodgers are up 3-0, as the 35-year-old has hit a home run in every game of the series, no bigger than the walk-off grand slam he hit in Game 1 achieved.

After Freeman hit the first walk-off grand slam in World Series history, he dedicated the moment to his father.

“My swing is thanks to him, my approach is thanks to him, I am who I am because of him… I just wanted to share this with him because he experienced this. He's been through a lot in his life too, just like that. “I'm having a moment, I just wanted to be a part of it with him in that moment,” Freeman said during his postgame press conference.

One of Freeman's former teammates, two-time All-Star AJ Pierzynski, joined OutKick's “Don't @ Me With Dan Dakich” to talk about Freeman's father's influence on him.

“I played with Freddie for two years. He was often in a crisis, always saying, 'Oh, Fred's coming in, I'll get it,' and actually his father came in and talked to him. I don't do that.” “I don't know what they were talking about, I don't know if they were doing voodoo, I don't know what they were doing, but all of a sudden Freddie was back, man,” Pierzynski said.

AJ Pierzynski doubled

Former Chicago White Sox catcher No. 12 AJ Pierzynski recently spoke about Freddie Freeman during an appearance on OutKick's “Dont @ Me With Dan Dakich.” (Rick Scuteri-USA TODAY Sports)

“We went to LA, he was struggling, Fred came in, they went to dinner, lunch, whatever, hung out and next thing you know Freddie was hitting home runs. Whatever Fred Freeman, his father, has must be very special because he really understands Freddie.”

Freeman is certainly looking “right” at the moment despite struggling with an ankle injury.

“(Freeman) wants to play every day, he wants to play 162, he wants to play every inning and do what he does with a bad ankle. Listen, the best thing that happened to him is that he had this week off between the LCS and the World Series, and it really healed him, and he looks a lot better, but Freddie Freeman is a stud in the World Series. “He's a stud in the regular season, he's got an MVP, he's got a World Series already done, he's going for two here, he's a surefire Hall of Famer in my opinion,” Pierzynski said.

Pierzynski believes Freeman's toughness comes in part from his Canadian roots.

“I mean, he’s Canadian, he’s a hockey player at heart. You know, he grew up in Southern California, we always made fun of him. He's like, 'I know, I'm Canadian, I'm tough,' that's who I am.” “Dude, you grew up on the Newport coast down there in Anaheim, let's not get crazy.”

Freeman's Dodgers have a chance to win the World Series on Tuesday when they take on the Yankees at 8:08 p.m. ET on FOX.
