Wade gave the Giants a two-out lead in the first inning by hitting a solo home run over the bullpen in right field with his first pitch. Wade began the fourth inning with a drive down the right field line, and Chapman followed with a hit straight to center, marking the seventh time this season the Giants have hit two home runs in a row. It was the first multiple home run game of Wade's career.

Tiebreaker

Because MLB increased the number of playoff teams from 10 to 12 teams in 2022, there will no longer be any additional games at the end of the season to resolve tiebreakers.

In the past, teams played Game 163 for the last playoff spot. Detroit lost Game 163 to the Twins in 2009, 6-5 in 12 innings.

The first tiebreaker is the head-to-head record. The second tiebreaker is the intrigue record, or record within the division. The third tiebreaker is the interdivision record, or record outside the division.

For example, if the Tigers were tied with the Twins, the Twins would secure the playoff spot because they would have won seven of 13 games against the Tigers.

If more than two teams are tied, the combined winning percentage of all of those teams in the games against each other is compared.
