CLEVELAND – The Detroit Tigers avoided a serious injury to one of their key players, but are still waiting to hear from another player.

After the back-and-forth loss to the Guardians in Game 4 of the ALDS, Tigers catcher Jake Rogers underwent an X-ray of his left wrist after hitting multiple foul balls into the same area just above the glove.

Rogers had his left forearm and wrist wrapped in ice in the Tigers' locker room after Game 4.

The good news is that the X-rays were clear and Rogers should be ready for the massive winner-take-all Game 5 showdown on Saturday (1:08 p.m., TBS) in Cleveland.

“I took a few in the same spot,” Rogers said, pointing to where his left hand and wrist meet just below his thumb. “But I got X-rays and everything was negative, so it’s good to go.”

Rogers said he was treated by the team's medical staff this morning before the team's departure to Cleveland and was pleased with his quick recovery despite ongoing pain.

“It feels better than I thought it would,” Rogers said. “So, I’m good to go.”

Rogers has started every game of the playoffs so far and has also been behind the plate in every one of Tarik Skubal's starts this season, a testament to his endurance. Skubal is ready to set up the decisive Game 5 for the Tigers after turning in dominant performances in his first two career playoff starts.

Later, manager AJ Hinch said that slugger Kerry Carpenter, who suffered a hamstring injury in the bottom of the sixth inning while scoring a single from second base by Wenceel Pérez, would be a “game-time decision” for the winner of Game 5 on Saturday .

DON’T GIVE UP YET: Maybe I jinxed the Detroit Tigers, but I still believe they will beat the Guardians in Game 5 of the ALDS

Carpenter began limping after rounding third base and was subbed out by Jace Jung for his next at-bat in the seventh inning.
