2 minutes, 46 seconds Read

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu last week expressed concern over the power outage in Nigeria's northern region. He is now leading efforts to end the disruption that has paralyzed social and economic activities, summoning Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.

The President has directed the Energy Secretary and relevant authorities to expedite work to restore power to all affected northern states.

President Tinubu is saddened by reports of vandalism and deliberate destruction of electricity infrastructure and other public assets that caused the unfortunate power outage.

In a meeting with the Minister of Energy, Adebayo Adelabu, who briefed on efforts by the Transmission Company of Nigeria to repair the damaged Shiroro-Kaduna transmission lines, the President pointed to a long-term solution to the problem.

President Tinubu urged TCN engineers not to relent and provide immediate assistance to the people in need of electricity to sustain their social and economic activities.

To ensure that the restoration work continues unhindered, President Tinubu also directed the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to work with the Army and Air Force to deploy adequate security personnel, including air cover, to protect engineers repairing the damaged transmission line.

President Tinubu implores traditional rulers, community leaders and other thought leaders to work with security agencies to protect public assets and infrastructure.
