Time has changed for many of you, but not for me. Across the United States of America, daylight saving time has ended and clocks have changed. Here in Arizona we stick to the same time year round. It is the changing times around us that worry us. It would be easier to stop this time shift altogether, wouldn't it?

We will continue this timing misbehavior every few months for now. And we will solve this word!

Word analysis

Every day I look at Wordle Bot to analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

Well, my guessing game began Fire today and then collapsed in tragedy. PEARL only left me with 19 possible solutions, and at that point I probably should have guessed all the new letters, but I thought it would be funny if the answer was SLATE and I just narrowed my options down to 9. BLADE was close, but not close enough. I chose BLAME, the only other word I could think of at the time, but the word was BLAZE and I walked away with a whopping five guesses. Ouch!

Competitive Wordle Score

I get -1 for guessing five and -1 for losing to the bot that took four tries today. -2 hurts!

How to Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing 1 is worth 3 points; guessing 2 is worth 2 points; guessing 3 is worth 1 point; guessing 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; Guessing on 6 is -2 points and missing the wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If there is a tie you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or simply play for a new score every day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, which means you double your points – positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running list or just play day by day. Enjoy!

Today's Wordle etymology

The word blaze comes from Old English blowmeaning torch or flame, and has Germanic roots, including Old Norse blesiwhich means a bright sign. It probably goes back to the Proto-Indo-European root bhel-which means “to shine” or “to burn” and in English develops into a bright flame or intense glow.
