It's Wordle Wednesday again, folks, which means I have a special brain teaser for you to solve before we get into today's Wordle.

Here is your additional challenge:

Four animal people have to cross a dangerous bridge at night. You only have a flashlight and the bridge is too dangerous to cross without it. Only two people can sit on the bridge at a time, and each person walks at a different speed:

  • Mr. Fox The crossing takes 1 minute.
  • Mrs. Alligator The crossing takes 2 minutes.
  • Mr. Orangutan The crossing takes 5 minutes.
  • Mrs Sloth The crossing takes 10 minutes.

When two animals cross paths, they must walk at the pace of the slower animal. The goal is for everyone to cross the bridge in 17 minutes or less. How do they do that?

Let me know if you solve the problem. I'll post the answer tomorrow. Now let's bust out today's Wordle!

Word analysis

Every day I look at Wordle Bot to analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

I somehow managed to guess two words and still didn't get any yellow or green boxes today. SPADE left me with 417 remaining possible solutions and BOINK reduced that to 29. Since there were zero correct letters, I chose CURVY for my next guess. It was as good a guess as possible without guessing the word, leaving me with only one possible solution: REALLY for the win!

Competitive Wordle Score

Just like yesterday, I get 0 points for guessing four points and -1 for losing to the bot that got the three points today. Sigh.

How to Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing 1 is worth 3 points; guessing 2 is worth 2 points; guessing 3 is worth 1 point; guessing 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; Guessing on 6 is -2 points and missing the wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If there is a tie you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or simply play for a new score every day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, which means you double your points – positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running list or just play day by day. Enjoy!

Today's Wordle etymology

The word “really” comes from the Old English word “trēowlīce”, what connects “treowe” (meaning “faithful, trustworthy or true”) and the adverbial suffix “-Lice” (similar to “-ly” in modern English, used to form adverbs). Over time, the spelling and pronunciation evolved into Middle English “trewely”, and finally into modern English “really.”
